The meaning of Bastion—a name lovingly chosen by his dad—is a stronghold, a source of protection, the first line of defense. Our Bubba wore that name like a medal of honor. He acted as a tether to this mortal plane, and grounded us amidst the chaos and uncertainty life would inevitably throw our way.

He came into our lives on a cold day in January as surprise for his mama. “I got you something” turned into one of the most cherished bonds a human can have. From that very first day he snuggled his way into our souls, our routines, and our home. We always used to joke we’ve been a trio in every lifetime—Bastion just so happened to be a dog in this one.

Bubba loved basking in the sunshine, playing tug until your hands were sore, and being curled up between his parents on the couch. He was a very expressive guy; rambunctious, talkative, and eager to make a friend. He was the first one by your side if you were sad or if you were indulging in a yummy snack. Some of his favorites included: french fries, cheese, and peanut butter. Bastion grabbed a hold of our hearts like a well-worn rope and absolutely refused to release. We wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Bubba’s legacy will continue on through his daddy, who was his greatest friend, his mama, who was his whole world, and a host of loved ones who were touched by his big heart and silly antics.

Our stories have been rewritten due to the loyalty, protection, and unconditional love we received from Bastion. He filled parts of us we didn’t even realize were vacant, and most definitely has taken pieces of us with him as he crossed over. He has left a paw print on our hearts, and we will spend the rest of our lives honoring his memory. Find us again, sweet boy. We love you!
