Liza E. Picklesworthy

I pulled Pickles from the shelter 14 years ago with the intention of fostering and then finding her a good home.

She was a little awkward doggo right from the start and I loved her for it. Her little quirks were going to make it difficult to find her a good home, so I decided she would be forever with me.

For over 14 years she stayed by my side. Many moves, more foster dogs than I can remember, and lots of changes came, but she found her place (usually a closet) and made it hers.

She loved all people and tolerated most of the dogs. She would always greet her friends with a "smile" and tail wags and would eventually end up in their laps. She didn't want to share loves and would not normally be ok with other dogs around while getting those loves. I think she went without being loved and cared for the first part of her life that she just wanted it all to herself. And that was ok.

Pickles was deaf and learned commands by signs. I miss giving her the happy dance sign and seeing her "dance."

I do believe that our dogs join us in the afterlife and I just know that she is up there with her frenemy, Novi, and the others that have gone before her playing and doing her happy dance.

I always say it, but give those pound dogs a chance. You won't find anything better and more loyal.
